John Clore

Controls and Automation Technician. ControlsTrainer founder. D-Vasive co-creator. Public-records advocate.

About Me

Building systems.
Solving real problems.

My name is John Thomas Clore. I’m a Controls and Automation Technician based in Lansing, Michigan, with experience spanning industrial automation, software development, digital media and public policy organizing.

From developing interactive controls training to helping launch consumer privacy software and advancing government transparency, my work connects technical design with practical challenges.

01 · Industrial Automation

Founder & builder of ControlsTrainer

I conceived, coded and launched ControlsTrainer from the ground up, drawing on my field experience in controls and automation. The browser-based simulator gives students and technicians a place to build, test and troubleshoot systems without needing a physical training bench. [1]

The platform combines progressive lessons with realistic controls scenarios:

  • Interactive wiring: field devices, terminal blocks, proximity sensors and emergency-stop circuits.
  • PLC programming: input/output addressing and functional ladder logic in an integrated editor.
  • Commissioning: variable frequency drive motor data, speed references and pneumatic valve sequences.
  • HMI and process control: operator screens, security controls and 4–20 mA analog loops for tank-level regulation.

Ten progressive levels draw on safety concepts associated with OSHA, the National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA 79 and NFPA 70E. The simulations support practice and assessment; they complement supervised training and site-specific safety procedures. [2]

ControlsTrainer is designed for technical classrooms and workforce development, as well as manufacturing onboarding and skills assessment. Learners can practice wiring, programming and diagnostics in a virtual environment.

02 · Cybersecurity & Software

Co-creating D-Vasive

I helped found and co-create D-Vasive, a privacy software company with Android and Windows products. The application made device privacy controls easier to understand, including alerts and controls for camera, microphone, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi access. [3]

My work included product design, branding, website development, software walkthroughs, promotional videos and media outreach.

A publicly filed asset purchase agreement names me, John Thomas Clore, as a D-Vasive shareholder and signatory. [4]

The John McAfee partnership

I pitched D-Vasive to antivirus pioneer John McAfee and negotiated the partnership that secured him as a 30% shareholder in D-Vasive Inc. McAfee became the public face of the company, while product development remained with the D-Vasive team.

03 · Public Records & Advocacy

Michigan Initiatives for Action

I founded Michigan Initiatives for Action LLC to develop and advance citizen-led legislative proposals focused on public-records transparency and the initiative process. [5]

The Transparency Act · July 2023

I drafted and submitted the Transparency Act, a citizens’ initiative proposing amendments to Michigan’s Freedom of Information Act, Act 442 of 1976, to address public-records exemptions affecting the executive and legislative branches.

On July 17, 2023, I appeared before the Michigan Board of State Canvassers in Lansing to present the petition’s form. The board unanimously approved its form. Form approval concerns the petition’s format; it does not enact the proposal. [5] [6]

Additional coverage of the transparency initiative includes a July 2023 report reproduced in DeWitt Township records and a brief mention in Bridge Michigan. [12] [14]

Documenting public meetings

Through Us Against Media, I recorded public meetings. Michigan Capitol Confidential identified this work and quoted my account in its reporting on a Grand Ledge school board meeting. [13]

Michigan House of Representatives testimony

HB 4691 — Lobbying and civil appointments. I testified on HB 4691 and raised concerns about assigning the Attorney General responsibility for determining conflicts. The official committee minutes record my testimony. [8] [9]

A revision following testimony. In a recorded interview, committee chair Representative Ann Bollin explained that testimony prompted a substitute changing the conflict-determination authority from the Attorney General to the appointing authority. She identified the concern I had raised in my testimony. See 1:55–2:18 in the video. [9]

HB 4680–4686 — Ethics legislation. I also testified representing Us Against Media. The committee minutes record a neutral position on the package of bills. [10]

HB 4474 — Opposition testimony. Representing Michigan Initiatives, I testified in opposition to HB 4474, as recorded in the official committee minutes. [11]

Michigan Senate

My advocacy before Senate panels addressed the mechanics of citizen initiatives, including geographic signature limits such as the 15-percent-per-district cap and check-box requirements on petition sheets. I argued that technical requirements can cause otherwise valid voter signatures to be rejected.
